Reason for Increased Number of Potholes in Nashville

If you've felt like you've been dodging potholes way more than usual this year, it isn't all in your head!

City data shows that the city has had to repair 80% more potholes this year compared to last year (9,179 this year vs 5,087 in 2017 - remember it's only March!)

The reason for this is apparently the increased rainfall. Nashville has already experienced 13 inches of rainfall, a number 50% more than usual.

When snow/rain seep into the pavement and the temperatures drop, the liquid then freezes and expands causing the potholes.

As awful as it is swerving around the highways in rush hour, we have to appreciate the public works employees who have been working overtime to fix the roads for us!
