The New York Post reports that Katie Holmes had a frightening experience last weekend while dining at Tribeca’s trendy restaurant Mr. Chow. The group sitting next to her wore Halloween costumes. One guy was dressed to look like Tom Cruise. Two of the women wore shirts that said “Save Suri” and “Free Katie."  A witness tells the Post (quote) “When they sat down, they exchanged an awkward glance with Katie, but she kept her cool and didn’t say anything. The embarrassed Halloween crew quickly covered up the costumes before Suri got a chance to take a look.”  How embarrassing would that have been: To have to explain to your daughter why you're fodder on Halloween.

With superstorm Sandy hitting New York, the city was turned into a virtual ghost town on Monday, but for talk show hosts David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon, the show must go on. Both hosts cracked wise about the fact they had no audience in their monologues and then went on with their shows as scheduled, complete with guests.

ANDERSON COOPER'S syndicated daytime talk show "Anderson Live" has been canceled after just two seasons.  It will get a full second season, so new episodes will continue airing through NEXT summer. Cooper says, "I look forward to doing more great shows this season, and though I'm sorry we won't be continuing, I have truly enjoyed it."

KELSEY GRAMMER reportedly brought his 3-month-old daughter with him to the Playboy Mansion Halloween party over the weekend.  One of the Playmates wasn't cool with it.  She Tweeted, quote, "Why the [eff] does Kelsey Grammer have a newborn baby at the Mansion party!?!?!?"

 The first LIVE episode of "X Factor" will air TOMORROW night . . . instead of Thursday night.  It was bumped up because the World Series was over early.  This will also be the debut of the show's new hosts KHLOE KARDASHIAN and MARIO LOPEZ
