Early Tuesday, a rep for the Marine Corps band revealed that Beyonce pretended to sing while a track of her recording was played during the Star Spangled Banner at President Obama's inauguration.

“We don’t know why Beyoncé decided to use prerecorded music,” Kristin DuBois, a rep for the Marine Corps Band said. “All music  is pre-recorded as a matter of course and that’s something we’ve done for years and years.”

But then later in the day, after the story blew up, someone from the Marine Corp was backtracking by saying no one in the band is in a position to know whether Beyonce’s vocal performance was live or pre-recorded, leaving fans to make their own interpretation.
