Letter To My Seventeen Year Old Self
Hello there you young feisty one. Might I give you a little advice? Knowing you, you will be too proud to listen, but I promise that if you do… that beautiful road God has laid out for you will be a little less bumpy.
Take a breath sweet girl. You have it ingrained in you to fight. Its all you've ever known, I know. You fight with your fists, and you fight with your heart…but just because anger and strife is all you feel now doesn't mean it will always be that way. Unclench your teeth and just breath. The wrinkles of a frowny face just aren't worth it.
As hard as you fight is also as hard as you love. Just don’t lose yourself to love just yet. Love you! Be in love with the now. That boy that is so precious in your heart today won’t be there for the long haul. The spiral down from your heart break isn't worth what comes later. Don’t you worry though…Someday you will find your prince. There will be a lot of kissing toads, saying goodbye to some good ones, and even a splash of regret. But he’ll be there. When you’re ready God’s got him waiting in the wings. In the meantime be good to your heart little girl.
Young spicey thing…. Be good to your Mommy. As much as you don’t want to be believe it, SHE IS ALWAYS RIGHT! She is your first and last best friend and loves you like no one ever will. Your going to give her lots of grey hairs, and when your first one sprouts from your scalp, I promise you will appreciate her even more. She is the core of who are and all that you will be. Remember that the next time you make her worry.
Above all the things I can tell you…sweet 17 year old me…Always keep a certain amount of that fire. Always dance like no one is watching…and always keep that obsession with music. It will carry to a place you would never have imagined in all your 17 year old dreams. It will be your passion, your lifeline an inspiration for all things that make you…you.
Someday you won’t have to fight to make others see you. Someday you will love like you never have. Someday you’ll make your mommy proud. And someday in your bumpy life road…you’ll be telling others your story.
Make it a good one Little R!ley.
Hopefully someday…I will mean something to someone else :)
